Connection Starts with Good Posture
Просмотров 9410 месяцев назад
Peggy Cummings My definition of connection is sinking up horse and rider in motion and in order to do that, I have to start out with the rider on the ground. Without a horse getting them aware of what their pattern is of tightening or what their what posture they're using when they're riding that they think is helping them affect the horse. And if it is affecting the horse in a good way, I show...
Connected Riding with Peggy Cummings

Peggy: My definition of connection with the horse means that I want the horse to have a weight bearing posture, which means that he carries as much as possible, even weight on all four legs. So that he uses a more symmetrically going left or right, and that he can use his back and his spine and have freedom in his limbs. So connection happens when the horse can ark. I'm using the word arc to say ...

I would love to try this with my arabian mare. She has a right shoulder area that is smaller than her left. Granted, I bought her from a breeder who after she was done showing her, kept her as a pasture pet so she does indeed need to be built back up. However, over time, her opposite hoof appears to be bearing more weight than it should because of this. Her right front hoof is the low in the high/low trait she carries. She is an incredible horse though so I would like to beef up this side and see if perhaps with the right work and focus, I can get her sounder in this way. Do you have a video of where I could apply the tape to pin point this shoulder?

    • @KarenTappenden-producer
      @KarenTappenden-producer 6 дней назад

Suggest you have her neck checked first and see if she has free movement equal to both sides. Often if the neck or withers are blocked, the shoulder muscles can become weak. Assuming she does not have other muscles or vertebrae abnormalities, you can tape the weak looking muscles. There are a number of good videos by other people up on how to use kinesiology tape on shoulders.

Hello. I have a mare who is arabian and therefore, naturally moody. When calm, she is a gentle soul but things such as care and petting, she pins her ears and swings her head as your horse was here. I see this as he just being snotty and if her head invades my space, I gently push it away and speak in a firm tone. However, she is 11 now and should be used to touch and work and she still thinks she can say no. Are there any ways to calm, her being a mare vs. a stallion?

We have white yarrow here in the PNW. I came here looking for holistic care.of.abscesses bc my draft cross appears to be an ongoing problem with this. We have mud 9 months of the year. Vet and farrier ARE involved, for the judgey people reading this that wanna freak out. But I am looking for what is safe to feed to my horse as an antibiotic. I have used.bith yarrow.and plantain topically as a poultice on abscess wounds. Yarrow is very effective as an infection fighter and plantain is awesome for drawing.out infection. I have used oil infused with comfrey and yarrow as a daily hoof paint, but with fresh infections, I only use the yarrow and plantain topically. I came here.looking for what is safe to feed them.and in what amounts to feed them. The vets here are all about the drugs.and.quite frankly, the plants have worked better. As soon as I can pay off the vet bill again, we are going in for foot x rays and then will make some decisions about my boy after seeing those. I may have been sold a horse with bad feet or the mud here may have caused permanent damage, but that would have happened awfully quickly. He's stalled all the time now. Repeat, VET AND FARRIER ARE ALREADY INVOLVED.

thank youuuu for this so helpful trying to figure out why my horse alwayssss pintches his tail to the right when ever she moves forward on both raains she does this only at stand still and back up that the tail goes to neutral, i have learned that it is the semitendinosus muscle that contracts to make the tail go to the side so maybe she just isn't engaging her middle gluteal on the right and instead she uses the semitendinosus muscle and that causes her tail to constantly pintch to the right when going forward but not when she backs up bcs then at the back up she is put in a situation where she has to round her bum and lift the back and so she isnt having to us that semtendinosus muscle as mutch pls let me know if i have this all right

This makes a lot of sense. Horses do a lot of stuff with their mouths and noses. I've often seen them nose bump each other. It isn't really practical for people to use our own noses for this because our noses don't stick out enough, and because our noses are more fragile. Using the back of the hand to bump a horse's nose is a safer and more effective method, and is easy for horses to understand. I still would talk to a horse in approaching it though, to avoid startling it, and to let it know that my intentions are friendly.😊🐎

Here, She is just showing how She clips His hair on the part, that sticks out and away form rump. do not know if most people are aware? it is cruel to dock a horse's tail for cosmetic reasons, in the show ring. to keep it held high and out, rather than down like a natural horse. They must do a procedure to the tail, to keep it extended up and out, when They step. Their tail is never down lying against Their back side. The noted Veterinarian Association, and other well known factual Equine Professionals all are against these two methods of dock/block. The far worse is the blocking, They kill the nerves in tail so Ne can no longer use it, to protect Himself against cold winds or swish flies. mostly done in Western horse shows. I do not approve of what She has done to this horse. The procedure, when done is painful. all to look good for The Owner's pride. UGH!

Great video!!;) What corrections can be made for a slightly too wide width in the short term, when you cannot run out and buy a new saddle immediately or if you’re horse has lost topline and muscle due to injury lay-off time? I know it’s not ideal to pad, but if that’s all your current budget allows for, is there a particular brand or shape to avoid? I’m dealing with a lopsided musculature horse recouping after a stifle fence injury and have been using a bareback pad in lieu of reflocking my current saddle or using a one sided shim when I have to use my saddle while he is rehabbing in hopes he will again fit his current saddle. Any suggestions? I’d love to hear from the poster or other commenters :)
